The World’s most famous nanny landed in the West End
to
rave reviews and standing ovations on December 15,
2004.
Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s musical stage production
of Mary Poppins is a triumphant spectacle, full of
dazzling choreography and unforgettable songs.
Directed by Richard Eyre and based on the stories
by P. L. Travers and the 1964 Walt Disney film, the new
stage production has been created by Oscar-winning
screenwriter Julian Fellowes, who has written the
book, and the Olivier award-winning British team of
George Stiles and Anthony Drewe, who have written
the new songs and additional music and lyrics.
Mary Poppins herself is played by Scarlett Strallen
- Scarlett already received rave reviews for her
performances in HMS Pinafore, Chitty Chitty Bang
Bang and Mamma Mia!. Gavin Lee will
continue to play Bert, a role he created when the show
opened last year. Leading West End and TV star Aden
Gillett steps in to his first musical to play George
Banks joining Eliza Lumley as Winifred Banks.
Sarah Flind plays Mrs Brill with Ray C Davis as
Park Keeper and Andrew Pepper as Robertson Ay.
Rosemary Ashe continues to play Miss Andrew and Julia
Sutton Bird Woman. There are five sets of children
playing Michael and Jane Banks.
